The fourth most populous county in the state of Minnesota is Anoka County, with a population of 330,844 as of the 2010 census. The county has 37 cities, of which Coon Rapids is the most populous city. It ranks 192nd in size in the United States. The county comprises the north portion of Minneapolis-St. Paul area and its county seat is the City of Anoka. In local Native American dialects, Anoka means “both sides.” The county’s name stems from the original communities that settled along both banks of the Rum River in the 1800s.
